WFD Assists Fairfield Fire at Historic Home

At approximately 1.30 this morning, Westport firefighters were called to assist Fairfield firefighters at a structure fire on Old Post Road. A couple an d four children lived at the home. There were reports of a child trapped on the second floor of the home but it was discovered that the 10 year old had jumped from the second floor prior to firefighters arriving. The house was built in 1816 by the Honorable Rodger Minot Sherman, a judge and nephew of one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence and sustained heavy damage. Firefighters from Fairfield, Westport, Bridgeport and Easton all worked at the scene to get the fire under control. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
